Working with architects to select bricks for the external facade is an amazing role. The choice of brick, bond, mortar and joint profile has a massive impact on the success of a project. I am often reminded of other materials that feature on projects and today I looked again at the Cambridge Central Mosque by Marks Barfield Architects. Looking up at the intricate web of laminate timber as it bends and weaves its way across the internal ceiling of the Mosque is mesmerising.

It reminds me of the laminated laths that were used to create the Downland Gridshell building at the Weald and Downland Museum in Sussex. Definitely worth a closer look if you like other materials as well as brick!
