Dezeen Magazine features an article on the use of seaweed and plant based products as a replacement for plastic. Notplas is reported to be completely biodegradable in approximately 4-6 weeks and is even edible. It was introduced to the UK at the 2019 London Marathon where Lucozade was given to runners in small sachets. The company is developing coatings for drinks cups and larger pouches to hold liquids as it strives to rid the World of single use plastics.

There is more to read by clicking here, but I hope that they will be able to develop a version which is strong enough to wrap packs of bricks and blocks. The cost of producing and wasting the shrink wrap on packs of bricks and blocks is bad enough, let alone the impact on the environment. Let's help the cause by asking for products NOT to be shrink-wrapped and simply covering the bricks in storage on site with reusable bags or tarpaulins.
